ADIRA x The Queer Arab Glossary Book Launch

20.09.2024
SPORE INITIATIVE

When language fails to fully capture our identities, we invent our own. Slang becomes a powerful expression, breaking barriers and filling the gaps where conventional speech falls short. It is both an act of defiance and a celebration of identity.

“The Queer Arab Glossary” is the first-ever published collection of LGBTQ+ slang in Arabic. This essential guide delves into the rich and diverse language of the queer Arab community, capturing its unique expressions, quirks, and nuances. With over 300 terms presented in both English and Arabic, the glossary spans a spectrum from lighthearted to profound, irreverent to serious, derogatory to affectionate.

The book also features insightful essays from prominent queer Arab artists, academics, activists, and writers, offering a deep exploration of how this glossary fits into contemporary social and political landscapes.

Join our conversation with the editor of “The Queer Arab Glossary” Marwan Kaabour, moderated by Lana Sirri. This event is organised by ADIRA.

Please note that the event will be mainly held in English.
